Today my mother in law, Joan, and I attended ‘Bustle to Bias Brides’, presented by The Cavalcade of History and Fashion. It was an interesting morning.
The presentation was held in a small meeting room at the Penrith Regional Gallery & The Lewers Bequest. As all presentations there is strictly a no touch policy with these rare original pieces on show however there was still opportunity to examine the historical gowns and accessories while hearing snippets from the lives of the original wearers of these gowns.
We were taken through a fascinating journey of 60 years of bridal fashions and more, focusing on the period between 1880 and 1940. These 60 years saw enormous changes in fashions which is reflected in the wedding gowns of their day.
As part of the presentation as we viewed the original gowns and accessories we heard of some of the etiquette and social history of the different decades.
Following the session, we were spoilt with a glass of bubbly and morning tea. A lovely morning out!
